OPEN DATA IN LITHUANIA

Open data are datasets available for all users and all purposes, including commercial use. They are distributed under one of the open licences –Creative Commons or similar. Open data can be copied and distributed without separate permission. In most cases, they can be reused, adapted, and transformed. The most commonly used Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence requires to give appropriate credit, to provide a link to licence, and to indicate if changes were made to original data.

Before using open data please check metadata for possible other limitations of use.

Open data are provided as a downloadable archive, in Shape format; if necessary also in .gdb format.

Geoportal.lt facilitates access to spatial open data. All (also non-spatial) data are available at the Lithuanian Open Data Portal.

HIGH RESOLUTION LAND COVER LAYERS

Brief description: High resolution layers (HRL) is a dataset created by using „Copernicus" Earth monitoring program data. It provides information on specific land cover characteristics. The layers are complementary to land cover / land use mapping such as in the CORINE land cover (CLC) datasets. The data is created by using satellite photos and combining automatic image processing with interactive, rule-based data grouping.

HRL contains these classes:

  • Imperviousness layer represents the spatial distribution of soil sealing (buildings, roads, and other areas of artificial surface) and holds information on the percentage of water permeability.
  • Forest layer contains information on the tree density level between 1% and 100% and a layer of the dominant tree type showing the spatial distribution of deciduous trees and conifers.
  • Grassland layer shows the distribution of grasslands in various states: natural, semi-natural, and used for farming.
  • Water and wetness, which shows the occurrence of water and wet surfaces over the period from 2009 to 2015. This layer is divided into 4 parts - permanent bodies of water, short-term water bodies, permanent wetlands, and temporary wetlands.
  • A layer of ligneous vegetation, containing information on the linear areas of ligneous vegetation such as hedges, tree rows, and other individual, small areas (200 m ² - 5000 m ²) of such vegetation.

DATASETS FOR EUROPE PROVIDED BY EUROGEOGRAPHICS

Brief description: Open European geographic datasets provided by EuroGeographics. Data can be downloaded and view services used with a token provided by email directly from the site. EuroGlobalMap (EGM) - 1:1 000 000 scale topographic dataset (Administrative Boundaries, Hydrography, Named Location, Settlement, Transportation) fit for small-scale thematic mapping. EuroRegionalMap (ERM) - 1:250 000 scale topographic dataset. EGM and ERM datasets are updated annually. Data that cover the territory of Lithuania within those datasets are also official datasets of the Republic of Lithuania and are separately distributed by the NMCA (National Land Service under the Ministry of Agriculture).
EuroDEM - 1:100 000 scale digital terrain model, designated for environmental change research, hydrologic modeling, mapping, and visualization (2008). Pan-European Imagery - 10-meter resolution high-quality images and mosaics for mapping and visualization (2018). Open Gazetteer - WFS service of authoritative geographical names as maintained in the source data of the NMCAs.
