San Diego, California — July 15, 2009 — GIS-Centras received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the 2009 ESRI International User Conference (ESRI UC) in San Diego, California. The organization received this honor for its vision, leadership, and innovative use of ESRI's geographic information system (GIS) technology in development of Lithuanian Geographic Information infrastructure.
Lithuanian geographic information infrastructure (LGII) has been designed as an open, shared national spatial data infrastructure for accessing and distributing geographic information products and services online. It connects major public sector information sources through a single Internet portal (www.geoportal.lt) that has been launched in 2009.
